In this age of “hip-hop” so many styles, trends, lingo come and go (which isn’t a bad thing fyi).  One of the newest craze for some reason is the “Snap Music Revolution”.  It all started with the laffy taffy silliness, which wouldn’t be a bad thing if it remained a single song, or a track or two.  However, in came Dem Franchise Boys, and whoever else came in to the game from a silly dance and a snap replacing a snare.  The comical quote from these “artist” is that they actually call it a new genre of “hip-hop” because of the silly dance and a snap replacing a snare.    Plus, they are telling us what to do “Lean wit it, Rock wit it….Shake your Laffy Taffy…Walk it out”, Do me a favor; order me to do something more complex than this.

The completely sad part of the “new genre” is that is was incorporated into R&B with Cherish (think of less talented SWV with a snap) and even more saddening with Monica (you’ve been out for a while, please don’t minimize your talent).   A longtime producer and mainstay in hip-hop, Jermaine Dupree is also responsible for snap crap.

A good seg-way with Mr. Dupree is the lil and young fun.  Lil and young have been around in “hip-hop” for a NY minute.  Yung One, Young Jeezy, Young Joc, young boozie, lil kim, lil wayne, lil white and even though he dropped it from his name lil bow wow (can’t drop the lil when your 5ft 2 and 110 lbs, PUT A SHIRT ON FYI!).  Anyway, can’t say if any lil’s or young’s have been good and talented, but look at Young Joc, Young Boozie, lil kim and lil wayne for example.  All have seemed to take there young and lil titles and made them fitting by there actions and/or songs.  Young Joc is well…..Whats Not Good! And I knowww you see it!, Boozie ZOOM, Zoom, very clever ripping off Young Joc but you role with him so it’s ok (kidding).  Lil Wayne recently ripped on Jay-Z, which is like Jamaal Crawford dissing M Jordan.  Lil Kim…nuff said.

I always thought that an artist makes the name what it is (Is Biggie Smalls really an ill name, or did Big make it great? Wu-Tang Clan might be a goofy name if it wasn’t The WU?)

Lil and Young, maybe I stand corrected.
